Indianapolis’ new destination park is close to completion. The southwest section of Tarkington Park, at Illinois and 38th Street, has undergone a nearly $6 million transformation since last fall.

The reports says it it includes a water park with digital lights and four different water features, a climbing wall, earth slides, tunnel tubes, rope climbing attractions and basketball courts.

“We were able to think about how people are going to use this space, how children families and individuals (will use it), so you think of the cushiony surfaces, you think of the colors that are a little more attractive to children, you think about people wanting to walk over to the neighborhood and having chairs and benches to sit on,” Indy Parks spokesperson Ronnetta Spalding said.

Midtown Indy’s Michael McKillip sees the park as a catalyst for the area. “You have this next to neighborhoods, high-rise buildings, and local businesses, so the park has the opportunity to really become the hub and center of the neighborhood,” he said.
